Crossroads Sauvignon Blanc 2011
Its normally this time of the year (4Q) that we eagerly await the release of the new vintage, this year is no different. In fact we got a sneak peek about 6 weeks ago and both my wife and I knew yet again that the team back home had scored yet again another classic Savvy vintage. Well done Crossroads! What struck us this year was the beautifully balanced acidity and the overall smoothness of this vintage, the hints of banana passionfruit on the nose which is a testiment to the soils of Awatere. As of Dec 1, it should be inbound.

"Crown Range" Pinot Noir 2008, Central Otago
The fruit was hand harvested from the Gibbston Valley in Central Otago in early May 2008. The pick was perfect in many ways; hand picked, the low yields of <2 tons / acre, which resulted in rich & concentrated fruit that reached 24.5 brix at harvest. The wine then spent the next 12 months in new French Oak barrels and the result is a deep rich unfiitered wine that shows ripe dark cherry and dried thyme dominating aromatics, balanced by ripe tannins and a well integrated acidity. Only 450 cases were made
The best part is that it is an excellent wine at an excellent price
Crossroads Sauvignon Pink 2010
and you thought the Sauvignon Blanc was good....try the pink! Here is a classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with high heels on. We have added 4% Syrah to this to give it a dashing pink texture and it tastes brilliant. Its a little more refined than the SB and given we doubled our order size this year and sold every last drop we know we are onto a winner.

"Lithe and refined, with good intensity and balance to lime, narcissus flower and grapefruit rind flavors highlighted by savory herb and crushed stone accents. Grass, graphite, and a pretty peach note linger on the finish. Drink now" DS. 90 points
Wine Spectator - "Sips & Tips" & "Best Buy of the Week"
"Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 14,000 cases made. From New Zealand. Wine Spectator's editors have selected this wine as the best buy of the week"
Our View -
Where should I start? Well for one its called the “WOW” wine; We were also pleasantly surprised as to how good the Crossroads Sauvignon Blanc was after an intense long dry & hot summer with a mild autumn (the perfect growng season). We first tried the 2007 vintage back in January 2008 and it was then that we realized on the spot, that this is going to be CROSSROADS Best Vintage yet.
Stylistically, it's a standout iconic Sauvignon Blanc that is refreshingly crisp with explosive fruit aromas, you can only come to expect from Marlborough New Zealand. You will definately notice the grapefuit on the nose, plus it has exceptional balance and acidity. This year we notice that the wine is going back to the typical "Wairau" style that the US has come to love.
